A visiting United States business delegation has expressed strong support for Bangladesh’s vision of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2034, praising the government’s economic ambitions and pledging continued engagement from the American private sector.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Prime Minister Tareq Rahman at the Secretariat on Thursday, delegation leader and U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Ambassador Atul Keshap said the group was encouraged by the government’s economic agenda and optimistic about Bangladesh’s future.
“We were truly delighted by the warm welcome from the Prime Minister and his government,” Keshap said. “Our delegation includes 50 business executives representing 25 leading U.S. companies. American companies are proud that the United States is the largest foreign investor in Bangladesh.”
Keshap said the delegation had heard the Prime Minister’s vision for transforming Bangladesh into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and expressed confidence in the country’s potential to achieve that goal.
“We believe in this vision,” he said. “With the talent and potential of the Bangladeshi people, the U.S. private sector can serve as an important catalyst by providing investment and technology.”
He added that the delegation had received positive assurances from the government regarding its commitment to social development, job creation, and maintaining sound macroeconomic indicators.
“The government’s message has inspired us,” Keshap said. “We will convey this positive message to American companies and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.”
Highlighting the long-standing role of American businesses in Bangladesh, Keshap noted that U.S. companies have contributed to employment generation and revenue growth over the past several decades. He expressed hope that this partnership with the government and the people of Bangladesh would continue to expand in the years ahead.
