Bangladesh Says Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Will Visit India Only After Favorable Conditions Are Created

Bangladesh has said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will not visit India unless a favorable environment is established, outlining several issues that Dhaka believes must be addressed before such a visit can take place.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, AKM Shahidul Karim, spokesperson for the ministry and Additional Foreign Secretary for Public Diplomacy, said Bangladesh has urged India to create the necessary conditions ahead of any official visit by the prime minister.

According to Karim, Bangladesh is seeking the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India, as well as the return of other fugitives, including individuals accused in the killing of Osman Hadi. He said these matters are among the key issues that need to be resolved before the visit can proceed.

"Bangladesh is waiting for a conducive environment to be created through the extradition of Sheikh Hasina and other fugitive accused, including those involved in the Osman Hadi murder case," Karim said.

He added that Dhaka has already conveyed its position to New Delhi, emphasizing the need for such an environment before Prime Minister Tarique Rahman undertakes an official visit to India.

The Foreign Ministry's remarks come amid growing speculation over the possibility of a future visit by the Bangladeshi prime minister to India. No official date for the visit has been announced.
