Bangladesh, Pakistan Vow to Deepen Bilateral Ties

Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have pledged to further deepen and consolidate bilateral relations based on mutual interests.

The two leaders held a formal bilateral meeting on Thursday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. It was their first meeting since assuming office.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the two leaders reviewed the overall state of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the current positive momentum in ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Bangladesh on assuming the presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly. He also expressed Pakistan’s full support for Bangladesh’s efforts to advance the objectives and goals of the United Nations.

Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to further strengthening mutually beneficial bilateral relations with Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman echoed similar sentiments and expressed satisfaction over the positive development in bilateral ties. He also highlighted his government’s strong interest in further advancing relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people contacts.

They also exchanged views on a range of regional and global issues, with both leaders underscoring the importance of maintaining close coordination at multilateral international platforms, including the United Nations.

Quoting Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the state-run news agency, the report said the two prime ministers held detailed discussions on matters of mutual interest, regional and international developments, and potential areas of cooperation for the welfare of the peoples of both countries.

Both leaders stressed the importance of taking Bangladesh-Pakistan relations forward on the basis of mutual respect, understanding and cooperation.
