Bangladesh and Türkiye Discuss Prime Minister’s Possible Participation in COP31

Bangladesh and Türkiye have discussed the possible participation of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman in the upcoming COP31 climate summit, which is scheduled to be held in the Turkish city of Antalya.

The discussion took place on Friday on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, during a meeting between Bangladesh's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

According to a press release issued by Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming climate conference, including the Prime Minister's potential attendance. However, the statement did not indicate that any final decision had been made regarding his participation.

The meeting also covered a range of bilateral issues, including high-level exchanges, defense cooperation, renewable and green energy, and opportunities for greater investment by Turkish companies in Bangladesh.

During the talks, State Minister Humayun Kabir invited Türkiye to participate in the International Sports Conference scheduled to be held in Bangladesh in early 2027.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest and expanding bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
