NEWS DESKBritish High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke held a meeting with leaders of the Women’s Wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the country’s largest Islamist political party, on Monday.
The discussions focused on the group’s community engagement and key policy priorities, offering insights into the role of women in the party’s structure and activities, read a Facebook post of the UK High Commission in Dhaka.
The post did not elaborate the content of the meeting nor mentioned the venue.
Approximately 40 per cent of Jamaat-e-Islami’s membership comprises women, who are active across various levels, including metropolitan, thana, and union committees.
These women are also members of the party's top policy bodies - central executive committee and the Majlis-e-Shura.
The Women’s Wing operates with specialized oversight, ensuring robust participation and influence within the party.
