NEWS DESKAfghanistan has imposed restrictions on certain social media content, according to a report by BBC, citing sources from the country’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
This move comes one week after a nationwide two-day shutdown of internet and telecommunications services in Afghanistan. The new content restrictions target specific types of posts on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), with filters now applied to limit access to certain content. However, it remains unclear exactly what types of posts are being restricted.
Social media users in Kabul have reported that they are no longer able to view videos on Facebook or access Instagram as usual.
A source from the Taliban government told BBC that controls have been put in place to limit certain content on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X.
Despite the restrictions, no formal explanation has been provided by the Taliban government regarding the reasons behind these bans.
