The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has announced seven distinguished imams to lead Taraweeh prayers at Masjid Al Haram during Ramadan 1446 (2025).
The appointees include prominent figures renowned for their recitation and spiritual leadership, continuing a decades-long tradition of excellence during Islam’s holiest month.
Heading the list is Sheikh Dr. Abdur Rahman As Sudais, President of the Presidency and a revered voice in Islamic prayer leadership. He will be joined by Sheikh Maher Al Muaiqly, celebrated globally for his melodious Quranic recitations during Hajj and Ramadan. Other appointees include Sheikh Abdullah Juhany, Sheikh Bandar Baleelah, Sheikh Yasir Dawsary, Sheikh Badr Al Turki, and Sheikh Waleed Al Shamsan — all seasoned imams with years of service at the Grand Mosque.
Taraweeh prayers, performed nightly during the month, draw millions of worshipers to Mecca and billions more via global broadcasts. The imams’ roles include leading prayers, delivering sermons, and ensuring a seamless experience for pilgrims.
Sheikh Sudais and Sheikh Al Muaiqly have previously led prayers during key Islamic events, including Hajj and Laylat al-Qadr.
Ramadan 2025 is expected to draw record numbers of worshipers as Saudi Arabia continues major expansions of Masjid Al Haram. Authorities have also pledged advanced crowd management and health protocols to accommodate the influx.
