Law enforcement agencies have arrested 510 people across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours as part of the ongoing nationwide crackdown titled ‘Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2’, aimed at recovering illegal weapons and maintaining law and order. During the same period, six firearms were seized.
The information was confirmed on Friday by AHM Shahadat Hossain, Assistant Inspector General (Media and PR) at Police Headquarters.
He said that as part of routine policing operations, law enforcement personnel searched 36,721 motorcycles and 48,384 vehicles across the country. During these checks, 271 illegal motorcycles were seized.
The interim government announced Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 in December last year to ensure a peaceful environment ahead of the national parliamentary election, maintain law and order, and suppress what authorities describe as “fascist terrorists.” The announcement was made by the interim government’s Home Affairs Adviser, retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Following the declaration, law enforcement agencies launched coordinated operations nationwide. Since then, arrests have been made daily in connection with various crimes, illegal firearms have been recovered from suspects, and extensive vehicle and motorcycle checks have been carried out. Authorities have also seized illegally operated vehicles during these operations.
Officials said the government-declared Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 will continue across the country to ensure public safety, maintain stability, and control the overall law and order situation.
