Bangladesh Bans Honorifics Before President, PM Titles in Official Documents

The Bangladesh government has banned the use of honorific terms such as “His Excellency” and “Honourable” before the titles of the president and prime minister in official correspondence, documents and summaries.

The Cabinet Division issued a circular on Wednesday announcing the directive.

According to the circular, the government has decided that honorific terms including “His Excellency” and “Honourable” will no longer be used before the titles of the president, prime minister, ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers in official state affairs and government documents.

All ministries, divisions and their subordinate offices have been instructed to implement the decision immediately.

The directive came into effect on Wednesday.
