NEWS DESKIn a dramatic escalation following an Israeli military strike, Iran has closed the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route. The announcement came from Iran’s armed forces through an official statement, declaring that no vessel will be allowed to pass through the strait until further notice.
“Not even a fly can cross this waterway without our permission,” the statement warned.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is the world's most critical chokepoint for oil transport, with nearly 20% of global oil traded by sea passing through it daily.
The sudden shutdown has triggered immediate spikes in international oil prices and raised concerns about broader disruptions to global energy markets.
Long considered a geopolitical flashpoint, the Strait of Hormuz has often been used by Iran as leverage in times of regional tension. This latest move is likely to intensify global diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the crisis and ensure stability in international shipping lanes.
