The government plans to extend free education for female students up to the Honors and Degree levels, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced in Parliament today.

Additionally, the government will phase out a program to provide free school uniforms and bags to all primary school students across the country. The Prime Minister shared these plans on Wednesday afternoon while responding to supplementary questions from lawmakers during the budget session.

Underscoring the government's commitment to female education and empowerment, the Prime Minister noted that a previous BNP administration led by Begum Khaleda Zia had made female education free up to the intermediate level. The current administration now aims to extend this benefit to the tertiary level, alongside offering scholarships to high-achieving female students. He added that the introduction of 'Family Cards' is another step toward ensuring the economic independence of women.

Responding to another query from reserved seat MP Shammi Akhter, the Prime Minister detailed welfare plans for primary education. He stated that the government will gradually distribute free school uniforms and bags to students from class one to five. This initiative will eventually cover nearly 12 million students studying across 65,000 government primary schools nationwide.
