NEWS DESKOn the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a closed-door meeting with no initial remarks made to the media.
This marks the latest in a series of diplomatic engagements between the two top diplomats. The last face-to-face meeting between Lavrov and Rubio took place on July 10 in Malaysia during ASEAN-related events, where they held nearly an hour-long bilateral discussion.
In addition, throughout 2025, Lavrov and Rubio have held multiple phone calls to discuss various bilateral and global issues.
Earlier this year, on February 18 in Riyadh, heads of foreign policy departments from both countries led high-level talks that lasted over four and a half hours. The two also took part in a "3+3" format dialogue during the Alaska summit, involving trilateral discussions with other senior officials.
While no official details have been released regarding the latest meeting in New York, it is seen as part of ongoing efforts to maintain high-level communication amid tense global developments.
