What began as an ordinary day on the highway quickly turned into a scene straight out of an action movie when a military aircraft lost control and made an emergency landing on a busy Oklahoma roadway — narrowly missing a Tesla. The shocking moment was caught on the car’s dashcam.
The video shows a U.S. military aircraft descending rapidly and touching down on an Oklahoma highway, narrowly avoiding a collision with a Tesla vehicle. Stunned by what he witnessed, the driver stopped his car in disbelief and remained on the highway as the dramatic scene unfolded.
According to The New York Post, citing KOKO News 5, the incident occurred Thursday afternoon when a U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command OA-1K Sky Warden II turboprop aircraft experienced a technical malfunction during a training mission from Will Rogers Air National Guard Base. Just before 2 p.m., the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing.
The aircraft glided down near Southeast 119th Street and Sooner Road in Oklahoma City. Tesla driver Matthew Topchian witnessed the terrifying moment unfold.
“I was driving down the road and suddenly saw the plane above the trees,” Topchian recalled. “At first, I thought it was just flying low — then I realized it was really, really low.”
Within seconds, the aircraft emerged from behind the trees and descended rapidly toward the highway, creating intense turbulence. Topchian said he froze, unsure what to do as the plane came alarmingly close.
“When it was coming down, I honestly thought it was going to hit me,” he said. “It disappeared from sight after a few seconds. Everything happened so fast — I didn’t even have time to react. Then I saw fire and thought the plane had exploded. I called my mom and said, ‘I don’t know what’s happening.’”
The Oklahoma City Fire Department reported that firefighters rushed to the scene to find the aircraft ablaze. However, both military pilots had already exited safely and escaped without injuries.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the in-flight malfunction that led to the emergency landing.
