U.S. President Donald Trump has said that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a top priority for the United States, even as global energy markets fluctuate.
His remarks came as comments from Iran’s supreme leadership were being broadcast, drawing international attention to the ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump noted that the United States is currently the world’s largest oil-producing country. He wrote that when oil prices rise, the country benefits financially.
“The United States is now the largest oil producer in the world, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money,” Trump said in his post.
However, the U.S. president emphasized that economic gains are not his primary concern. According to Trump, a far more important objective is preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
He described Iran as an “evil empire” and warned that allowing the country to obtain nuclear weapons could threaten the Middle East and potentially the wider world.
“As president, my greater interest and more important issue is stopping an evil empire like Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and destroying the Middle East and, in fact, the world. I will never let that happen,” Trump wrote.
Trump’s comments highlight the continuing geopolitical tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the broader security situation in the Middle East.
