Former United States President Donald Trump has claimed that the president of Iran’s new government has requested a ceasefire with the United States.

Trump made the statement on his social media platform Truth Social but did not name the Iranian official. He described the official as "much less extremist and far more intelligent" compared with his predecessors.

Trump added that the United States would not consider a ceasefire until the Strait of Hormuz is fully secure and open. "When the Strait of Hormuz is open, free, and safe, then we will consider it. Until then, we are destroying Iran, or as they say, sending them back to the Stone Age," he said.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime route for global energy transportation, long recognized as a point of tension between the United States and Iran.
