Tim Cook is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer of Apple Inc. after nearly 15 years in the role, according to reports from the BBC.
The company announced that he will be succeeded by long-time Apple executive John Ternus, who currently serves as head of hardware engineering.
Apple said Ternus will officially assume the role of CEO on September 1. Cook will remain involved with the company as Executive Chairman and will assist during the leadership transition.
Cook became CEO in 2011 after co-founder Steve Jobs stepped down due to health reasons. Under his leadership, Apple grew into one of the most valuable companies in the world, surpassing a $1 trillion market valuation in 2018 and reaching around $4 trillion in recent years.
John Ternus has been with Apple for 25 years and has played a key role in developing major products including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Analysts say his appointment signals a continued focus on hardware innovation and product development as Apple enters its next phase of leadership.
