U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has warned that any attack on commercial vessels in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz would trigger a strong military response against Iran.
Speaking at a press conference at the Pentagon, Hegseth said Iran would face “serious consequences” if it targets international shipping in the key maritime route.
“As a direct contribution from the United States to global security, we have established a powerful red, white, and blue dome in the Strait of Hormuz,” he said. “Any attack on commercial ships will result in Iran facing devastating strikes.”
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical chokepoints for global oil and trade flows, making any escalation in the area a major concern for international markets and security.
