Trump Promises $5,000 Payments to Americans if Republicans Retain Congress

US President Donald Trump has promised to give every adult American $5,000 if Republicans retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.

At the same time, Trump urged his supporters to “assume” that he himself is on the ballot in the election.

Speaking at a Republican midterm election conference in Dallas on Wednesday, Trump said, “If Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000.” He said the payment would be called a “Trump dividend.”

Trump did not explain where the money would come from. The proposal could theoretically cost more than $1 trillion if every eligible adult received the payment.

“We’re making a tremendous amount of money as a country,” Trump said, without providing further details about how the payments would be funded.

Despite trailing in opinion polls, Trump sought to emphasize his role in helping Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in November.

“I’m telling you, assume I’m on the ballot,” Trump told the audience.

“I’m on the ballot, I’m on the ballot — one more time,” he added.

Trump’s approval rating has remained in the 30% range in opinion polls, while voter dissatisfaction over high prices and the war with Iran has continued to grow.

According to a forecast by Decision Desk HQ, Democrats could win control of the House of Representatives in November with a projected 230-205 majority. The forecast also puts Democrats ahead in the Senate, with a possible 51-49 majority.

Trump strongly defended the unpopular war with Iran during his speech. He predicted victory in the conflict and directly linked the outcome to lower oil prices.

He also hinted at renaming the strategically important Strait of Hormuz after himself.

“Food prices and the prices of almost everything are coming down rapidly, and once we win the war with Iran, oil prices will come down,” Trump said. “The war is going on right now.”

Trump, like other Republicans at the conference, also warned of what he described as the threat of a rising wave of communism in the United States.

“If they win, it will become a communist country,” he said.

Trump told supporters that their votes would determine whether the country would “stumble” as it begins the next 250 years or move forward without looking back.

He is scheduled to deliver another speech at the conference’s closing session on Thursday. Vice President JD Vance is expected to deliver the keynote address before Trump.

Cabinet members, congressional leaders, and candidates running in key House and Senate races are also taking part in the conference.
