Hillary Clinton Urges Tougher U.S. Stance if Netanyahu Returns to Power

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government ahead of Israel’s upcoming election, calling on Washington to take a tougher stance if Netanyahu returns to power.

At the same time, Clinton said the United States could work more easily and effectively with Israel if a new leadership takes office.

In a recent interview on MS NOW’s Morning Joe, Clinton outlined her views on Israel and Netanyahu’s government, drawing a distinction between her support for the country and her opposition to its current leadership.

“I have said repeatedly that I love Israel, but I deeply dislike Netanyahu’s government and its policies,” Clinton said. She added that she holds a similar distinction regarding her own country, saying she loves the United States but strongly disagrees with President Donald Trump’s administration and its actions.

Clinton said the situation in Israel is not only harmful to the country’s future but is also a growing concern for the United States. In her view, Israel’s domestic political developments and the policies of Netanyahu’s government have significant implications for Washington.

During the interview, Clinton also discussed what the United States should do if Netanyahu wins another term. She argued that Washington should adopt a tougher approach toward a Netanyahu-led government.

However, she said a new Israeli leadership would likely make it easier for the United States to establish a more effective working relationship with Jerusalem.

Her remarks come at a time of intense political competition in Israel and have sparked renewed debate over Netanyahu’s leadership and the country’s political future ahead of the election.

Recent opinion polls have shown opposition parties holding a slight advantage over Netanyahu’s bloc. However, neither side has so far appeared capable of securing the majority needed to form a government on its own.

Netanyahu is seeking to return as prime minister for a seventh term. But continued political challenges have weakened his governing coalition compared with previous years.

To maintain his political position, Netanyahu has increasingly relied on the support of his coalition partners. As a result, the upcoming election is emerging as a critical test not only of his political future but also of the stability and survival of his current coalition.
