NEWS DESKLegal Adviser Asif Nazrul has dismissed rumors of an impending government change, emergency declaration, or the formation of a caretaker government as baseless. He assured that the government is committed to holding the national election in February as planned, and urged the public not to be misled by speculation.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Monday (September 1), Nazrul said, “The meeting between the Army Chief and Chief Justice was a routine protocol matter. There is no need to read too much into it.”
He reaffirmed that, as per the Chief Adviser’s announcement, the next general election will be held in February and the government is working accordingly.
Regarding the National Consensus Party's (NCP) call for a Constituent Assembly election before the national polls, Nazrul said, “This is purely a political stance of the NCP and does not reflect the government’s position.”
He also commented on the law and order situation, stating, “Post-uprising governments may see temporary instability. We’ve seen fluctuations before, but it won’t disrupt the upcoming election.”
Nazrul expressed hope that political disagreements will be resolved through dialogue and that state affairs will continue in a peaceful and democratic manner.
