Sale of Islamic books has increased this year at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2025 organized by the Bangla Academy. Publishers of Islamic books said that besides their regular readers, they had got new collectors in the inclusive atmosphere of the fair.

Maktabatul Ashraf, a publication of Islamic books got an allotment of a stall after 2008, said Masur Parvez, the publication’s sales and marketing executive.

‘Maktabatul Ashraf has worked as a publishing house since 1990, but after 2008 we did not get a stall at the Ekushey Book Fair,’ Masur Parvez said, adding that the readers of Islamic history, laws and biographies of eminent Islamic scholars are increasing, but youths could not carry these books for political reasons.

After the student-led mass uprising people, mostly youths, have showed an interest in religion, Masur Parvez said, adding that if there is an Islamic book corner like the children’s corner, it will help the readers find their desired books.

Muhammad Publication online editor Mohammad Abdullah, said, ‘The readers of Islamic books collect their books round the year, so business of the Islamic books is not based on the fair.’

Abul Khair Pias, head of the online sale of Ettihad Publication said that this fair created a lot of new collectors of their publication.

Asa Prodhan came from Matuail with her daughter at the fair to collect some reference books on religious issues, said that the Islamic book corner added inclusivity to the fair.

Bangla Academy director general Mohammad Azam said that there was no Islamic Books category at the fair.

‘You can find more than 30 to 40 publications about Islam or religion published by Prothoma or Mowla Brothers but the academy has not categorized them as Islamic Publication,’ Mohammad Azam said, adding that publishers fulfil the requirement of stall allotment.

A number of 67 new titles, including 21 collections of poems, eight novels and nine collections of short stories, were published on Sunday at the fair as per day basis according to Bangla Academy officials.
