Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman Congratulates Speaker and Deputy Speaker of 13th Parliament

Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has congratulated Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikrom) on being elected Speaker of the 13th National Parliament and Barrister Kaiser Kamal on becoming Deputy Speaker.

He extended the congratulations while delivering his speech during the first session of the 13th Parliament.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the current parliament stands “on the blood of July,” referring to the events surrounding the July uprising. He expressed hope that the Speaker would treat both the government and opposition equally and ensure fairness in parliamentary proceedings.

The opposition leader said he expects justice from the Speaker and believes the House will receive fair treatment under his leadership.

Mentioning the presence of many young leaders in the parliament, he described himself as young as well.

Addressing the Speaker directly, the Jamaat chief said, “You are a fighting freedom fighter. You can do it.”

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman added that he expects only justice from the Speaker and concluded his speech by saying, “We want justice.”
