Bangladesh has called for enhanced cooperation with Algeria in the energy sector to ensure long-term energy security, while welcoming Algiers’ interest in expanding collaboration in the hydrocarbon sector.

The call was made during a courtesy meeting between Algerian Ambassador to Dhaka Abdelouahab Saidani and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to an official press release.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and their growing bilateral cooperation.

They discussed ways to boost trade and investment, with particular emphasis on strengthening collaboration in energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, and manpower sectors.

The state minister highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in education and welcomed progress toward establishing a Joint Consultative Commission.

The ambassador reiterated Algeria’s commitment to expanding cooperation in key areas, including energy, education, agriculture, and the recruitment of both skilled and unskilled workers.

Both sides also stressed the importance of increasing people-to-people contacts through cultural and sports exchanges, as well as exploring the possibility of a mutual visa exemption agreement.

They further underscored the need for regular bilateral engagement and high-level visits to deepen ties, with the ambassador reaffirming Algeria’s strong commitment to strengthening its longstanding brotherly relations with Bangladesh.
