Nasiruddin Patwari, chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has alleged that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina misappropriated large sums of money through the “smart card” initiative.
Speaking at a seminar in the capital on Wednesday, Patwari said new government projects are now being introduced under various names, including canal excavation schemes, family cards, and farmer cards.
“We have also launched a card — the red card,” he said. “If these initiatives fail, we will show the government the red card.”
The seminar, organized by the NCP, was titled: “Government Conditions During Paddy Procurement Season and Farmers’ Suffering Due to Untimely Heavy Rainfall: Crisis and the Way Forward.”
Patwari also called on the government to present a comprehensive action plan to ensure the security of farmers, including protection of their homes and livelihoods. He urged authorities to establish union-level storage warehouses to support agricultural producers.
The NCP leader further alleged that the government had “sold its backbone to India” ahead of the elections, claiming this was why no strong official protest had been seen on several major issues involving India.
