The administration has expressed a strong commitment to partnering with Bangladesh to enhance its housing sector and build disaster-resilient urban infrastructure.
The development was highlighted during a courtesy meeting between Ambassador Brent T. Christensen and Bangladesh's Minister for Housing and Public Works, Zakaria Taher, at the ministry's secretariat office on Wednesday (July 15). The discussions focused on reinforcing long-standing bilateral relations while exploring cooperation in affordable housing schemes, modernizing national building codes, sustainable urban planning, and the development of public parks and green spaces.
Ambassador Christensen emphasized that domestic firms and experts are highly interested in sharing advanced technical solutions to modernize Bangladesh's housing infrastructure. In response, Minister Zakaria Taher sought technical cooperation to establish the "Bangladesh Earthquake Safety and Research Institute" to bolster disaster preparedness. The Ambassador assured full support in facilitating direct collaboration with premier domestic experts in seismology and structural engineering. The high-profile bilateral meeting was attended by the Ministry’s Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam along with senior diplomatic and political counselors from the embassy.
