President Holds Cordial Meeting with Bhutanese King: Mutual Invitations Extended

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan made a brief transit stop in Dhaka while traveling from Singapore to Bhutan. He was warmly received at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, where both leaders engaged in a cordial discussion during a brief stopover.

During the meeting, the President formally invited the King and members of the royal family to visit Bangladesh at their convenience. In response, the Bhutanese King extended a gracious invitation to both the President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to visit Bhutan. The King also conveyed warm congratulations and best wishes to the President on assuming office.

Highlighting the enduring bilateral ties, the President recalled that Bhutan was the very first nation to recognize Bangladesh on December 6, 1971, holding a special place in the hearts of the Bangladeshi people. Both leaders emphasized expanding cooperative efforts in education, trade, and investment to ensure mutual prosperity.

The King briefed the President on his visionary 'Gelephu Mindfulness City' initiative and sought active participation from Bangladesh. The President praised the transformative project and expressed readiness to collaborate closely for sustainable development. The King departed Dhaka for Bhutan later that morning.
