Bangladesh Parliamentary Delegation to Attend 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference

A five-member parliamentary delegation from Bangladesh, led by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaisar Kamal, will leave Dhaka on Friday to attend the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Cape Town, South Africa.

The delegation includes BNP lawmakers Humam Quader Chowdhury and Sakila Farzana, as well as Md. Mahbubul Alam, a lawmaker from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan will serve as secretary to the delegation.

The 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference will be held from September 13 to 19, bringing together lawmakers and representatives from Commonwealth countries.

The conference will focus on discussions, exchanges of views and decision-making under the theme, “Strengthening International Law and Parliamentary Democracy in a Changing World Order: The Commonwealth’s Leadership.”

During the conference, Deputy Speaker Kaisar Kamal is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly.

He is also expected to meet Alan Winde, Premier of South Africa’s Western Cape, for bilateral discussions.

The Bangladesh delegation, led by the deputy speaker, is also expected to hold meetings with representatives from several other participating countries.

As part of efforts to strengthen democratic practices, members of the Bangladeshi delegation will participate in a parliamentary workshop with CPC leaders focused on advancing the shared goal of consolidating democracy.

The delegation is scheduled to return to Dhaka on September 20 after the conference concludes.
