The Netherlands has expressed its keen interest in providing technical assistance and conducting feasibility studies for Bangladesh's crucial Teesta River project.
The proposal was highlighted during a courtesy meeting between Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, and Prime Minister Tarek Rahman at the Secretariat. Warmly welcoming the initiative, Bangladesh emphasized the shared challenges both delta nations face and highlighted the vast potential for collaboration in river management, land reclamation, and climate adaptation.
The high-level bilateral discourse also encompassed key strategic areas including renewable energy, expanded trade and investment, and the pursuit of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union. Furthermore, both leaders addressed the ongoing Rohingya crisis, reinforcing that a sustainable resolution relies on safe and voluntary repatriation to Myanmar. The constructive session concluded with Minister Sjoerdsma extending an official invitation to Prime Minister Tarek Rahman to visit the Netherlands.
