NEWS DESKHome Advisor Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged law-enforcing agencies to work diligently to apprehend lawbreakers and ensure they face trial. "We don't want to see criminals roam free in our streets, highways and markets. Every criminal should be tried and brought to justice. I urge law-enforcing agencies to be more active," he said at an event on Tuesday.
Jahangir noted that "Operation Devil Hunt", a nationwide law enforcement drive, is underway with the aim of bringing anarchists and disruptors to justice.
"The operation will be monitored nationwide through a joint operation centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Police commissioners, magistrates, and police superintendents will oversee these activities," he said.
The interim government launched the operation after violent attacks and vandalism near the home of former Liberation War Affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur, which left several people injured. Since Saturday, joint forces have been conducting raids to apprehend disruptors and anarchists.
"Not a single criminal will escape the 'Devil Hunt' operation," Jahangir said. "Judges, public prosecutors, law enforcers and intelligence personnel are all dedicated to capturing criminals and ensuring their punishment. The government has appointed eight judicial magistrates in metropolitan areas to handle summary trials of criminals," he said.
He also called on lawyers to be present at court sessions on scheduled days. "No criminal should be granted bail," he added.
Jahangir warned that criminals, including those involved in violence, extortion, or corruption, should not be allowed to return to crime after being released on bail due to insufficient information or failure of law enforcement. "We must ensure that criminals are uprooted, and peace and order prevail. This can only be achieved through coordination between the judiciary, skilled police, and lawyers."
