NEWS DESKThe US ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, has announced that Syria and Israel agreed to a ceasefire, following days of intense Israeli airstrikes and violence in Syria’s southwestern Suwayda region, Press TV reports.
Barrack claimed in a post on X early on Saturday that the ceasefire between Syria and Israel was “supported” by Washington and “embraced” by Turkey, Jordan, and Syria’s neighbors.
“We call upon Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis to put down their weapons and together with other minorities build a new and united Syrian identity,” he wrote.
The HTS regime also declared an “immediate ceasefire” and called on “all parties to fully respect” the truce on Saturday.
The development comes amid clashes between HTS regime forces, Bedouin tribes, and Druze minority groups, leading to a worsening humanitarian crisis and the displacement of tens of thousands.
On Wednesday, Israel launched heavy air strikes targeting Syria’s Ministry of Defense in the heart of Damascus, and also hit HTS regime forces in the country’s Suwayda region.
The Israeli regime claims it has launched attacks to protect Syria’s Druze minority in Suwayda, where ethnically charged clashes between Druze and Bedouin armed groups and HTS regime forces have reportedly left hundreds dead.
