The recently brokered ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan collapsed within 24 hours as both sides launched rocket attacks early Tuesday morning, according to multiple sources in Kabul.

Local journalists reported that around 4:00 AM, Pakistan launched a rocket attack on Shorabak district in Kandahar province, southern Afghanistan. Initial reports indicated no immediate casualties, though the full extent of damage remains unclear.

According to Afghan sources, Pakistan initiated the attack, prompting a swift retaliatory strike from the Islamic Emirate government, which targeted Pakistani military posts and positions. Unconfirmed reports from Afghan intelligence circles suggest that the retaliation caused significant damage and casualties on the Pakistani side.

This sudden escalation comes less than a day after a ceasefire agreement, reportedly advised by Qatar and Iran, was put in place. The breakdown raises serious concerns over the viability and future of any peace efforts between the two nations. Ironically, both sides had officially welcomed the ceasefire on Monday.

Tensions Rising in Diplomatic Arena

The rocket exchange reflects a rapid deterioration in bilateral relations. Recent statements from Pakistan's Foreign Ministry have further strained diplomatic ties.

Over the years, Pakistan has referred to the Taliban-led Islamic Emirate as Afghanistan’s interim government. However, in recent days, Islamabad has drawn direct comparisons between the Afghan administration and terrorist organizations.

In a strongly worded statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry accused Afghan Taliban, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and Baloch separatist groups of jointly launching attacks on Pakistani territory. The implication is that the Afghan government is allegedly collaborating with militant and separatist organizations operating against Pakistan.

As of now, the Islamic Emirate government has not issued any official response to these accusations.
