NEWS DESKThe 2015 nuclear agreement between Tehran and six world powers (known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA) has officially come to an end. Iran, Russia, and China have informed the United Nations of this development.
In a letter sent to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council on Saturday, the three countries confirmed that all provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 had expired on October 18, 2025. This marks the conclusion of the UN Security Council’s consideration of Iran’s nuclear issue.
The letter also states that efforts by the United Kingdom, France, and Germany (the E3) to reinstate the UN’s previous sanctions are legally flawed and unacceptable, as the European countries themselves violated the commitments made under the agreement.
Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing further emphasized that the expiration of Resolution 2231 represents the end of this chapter, which they believe will strengthen the credibility of the Security Council and multilateral diplomacy.
The three countries have called on all parties to refrain from unilateral sanctions and provocative actions. They also urged dialogue based on mutual respect to seek a peaceful resolution.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that, with the expiration of the agreement’s timeline, all restrictions and processes related to Iran’s nuclear program have been lifted.
The JCPOA was signed in 2015 between Iran and six world powers — the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and China. However, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the deal in 2018.
