In a unique initiative aimed at boosting the state’s global profile ahead of the upcoming Telangana Rising Global Summit, Chief Minister E. Revanth Reddy has proposed naming a major Hyderabad road after U.S. President Donald Trump.

The road, which passes by the U.S. Consulate, is expected to soon be officially designated as “Donald Trump Avenue.” Administrative officials noted that this could be the first instance of a major street outside the United States being named after a sitting or former U.S. President.

The renaming initiative is not limited to political figures. In an effort to honor global business and technology companies that have significantly contributed to Hyderabad’s emergence as a tech hub, the state government is considering naming several major roads after international corporations. These include “Google Street” in recognition of Alphabet’s investment and presence in the region, as well as potential designations such as “Microsoft Road” and “Wipro Junction.”

Additionally, the state government has decided to name the 100-meter greenfield radial road connecting Nehru Outer Ring Road in Ravirala to the proposed Future City after Padma Bhushan Ratan Tata, with the interchange already designated as “Tata Interchange.”

CM Reddy defended the initiative, stating that naming roads after influential global personalities and corporations serves a dual purpose: it honors their contributions while also inspiring the public. He added that it would further elevate Hyderabad’s standing on the global stage.

However, the proposal has drawn strong criticism from central minister and BJP leader Bondi Sanjay Kumar, who suggested that the government should focus on restoring the city’s historical identity, proposing that Hyderabad be renamed “Bhagyanagar.”

Writing on social media, Sanjay Kumar criticized CM Reddy’s approach, claiming that the road renaming seems focused on “trending personalities” rather than historically significant figures. He added that the BJP is raising these concerns while continuing to fight for real issues affecting citizens.

The BJP has previously renamed several towns and villages across states like Uttar Pradesh and Assam, particularly replacing names given during Muslim rule with ones aligned with Hindu heritage.

Meanwhile, relations between the BJP-led state government and President Donald Trump have faced friction over issues such as Operation Sindur and tariffs, adding another layer of political complexity to the road-naming proposal.
