The BNP-led government is set to undergo its first cabinet reshuffle on Friday evening, with several ministers and state ministers expected to be reassigned or inducted into the cabinet, according to multiple high-level government sources.
BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moin Khan is likely to take charge of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, while Andalib Rahman Partha, chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), a BNP alliance partner, is expected to be given responsibility for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The reshuffle is expected to follow the swearing-in of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as president at Bangabhaban on Friday. Four new members are expected to take their oaths as ministers and state ministers afterward.
Moin Khan is expected to take over the Local Government Ministry, which Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is leaving following his elevation to the presidency.
According to the sources, Saching Prue Jerry and Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln, both members of the BNP's executive committee and elected members of parliament, are also set to join the cabinet.
Saching Prue Jerry is likely to be appointed to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, while Shamim Kaiser Lincoln is expected to serve as State Minister for Religious Affairs.
The reshuffle may also bring changes among existing cabinet members. Zahir Uddin Swapan, currently serving as Minister of Information, is expected to become an adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Meanwhile, Rashiduzzaman Millat, currently serving as State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, is expected to be promoted to a full minister. The current minister, Afroza Khanam Rita, may be transferred to another ministry.
Government sources said the Cabinet Division has already contacted several individuals who are expected to receive ministerial or state ministerial appointments and asked them to remain available to attend the swearing-in ceremony at Bangabhaban on Friday evening.
The final composition of the cabinet, however, will be confirmed only after the president administers the oaths.
