The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a new $8.1 billion financial assistance package for Ukraine as the nation enters its fifth year of conflict with Russia.

Announced on Thursday, the 48-month arrangement will provide an immediate disbursement of $1.5 billion to help Kyiv maintain macroeconomic stability and cover critical budget deficits.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva lauded the extraordinary resilience of the Ukrainian people and emphasized that the program aims to promote structural reforms and long-term reconstruction.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko stated that the funding is vital for repairing the energy sector, which remains under constant Russian bombardment. Since the invasion began in February 2022, the IMF has already provided over $10 billion in support to Ukraine, making it one of the largest recipients of emergency financial aid in recent history.
