A high-profile investigation by The New York Times has revealed that U.S. forces were behind the devastating airstrike on a girls' school in Minab, southern Iran.

The incident occurred last Saturday (February 28) during a coordinated aerial offensive by Israel and the United States. According to the report, more than 175 people, predominantly young students and staff at the Sazareh Tayyebah Elementary School, lost their lives in the attack. Using satellite imagery, verified videos, and social media data, the NYT concluded that the strike was likely part of a broader operation targeting a nearby naval base.

While the U.S. government has neither confirmed nor denied direct responsibility, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on Wednesday that an investigation is underway. However, the Times noted that officials have publicly admitted to conducting flight operations in the area on that specific day. National security analysts, including former U.S. Air Force officers, pointed out that the strikes were "careful and precise," casting doubt on claims of mistaken targeting since school facilities like sports fields were clearly visible in satellite photos. This tragedy is now being viewed as the most lethal civilian casualty event in the ongoing military campaign against Iran by U.S. and Israeli forces.
