Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened for the remainder of the ongoing ceasefire period.

In a statement posted Friday on the social media platform X, Araghchi said that, in alignment with the ceasefire in Lebanon, all commercial shipping through the key waterway would be allowed to resume. He added that vessel movement would follow coordinated routes previously designated by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization.

Earlier this week, the United States announced the start of a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. In response to joint attacks by the United States and Israel in February, Iran had effectively shut down one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes for several weeks.

There has been no immediate response from the United States regarding Iran’s latest announcement. The two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States is scheduled to expire on April 22.
