Pakistan has called on the United States and Iran to extend the duration of their ongoing ceasefire, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

The statement said that Natalie A. Baker, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, held a meeting with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. During the meeting, Dar emphasized the importance of continued communication between Washington and Tehran.

He also urged both countries to extend the ceasefire period in order to maintain stability and avoid renewed conflict, the ministry said.

The current 14-day ceasefire between the United States and Iran is set to expire late Wednesday night, Tehran local time.

Recently, Donald Trump indicated that he is not willing to extend the ceasefire further. Meanwhile, Iran has signaled that it is fully prepared for a potential resumption of hostilities.

Pakistan’s appeal reflects growing concern over the risk of escalation if the fragile truce collapses.
