Iran has demanded the release of $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets as part of a possible agreement with the United States, according to reports.

The information was published by Tasnim News Agency and later cited by Al Jazeera.

Citing a source close to Iran’s negotiating team, Al Jazeera reported that Tehran is seeking the immediate release of half of the total amount — approximately $12 billion — upon signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Iran has also demanded that the remaining funds be released within 60 days.

The report further said that Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has traveled to Qatar to finalize an agreement on the mechanism for implementing the demand.

The reported negotiations come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions between Tehran and Washington following months of heightened regional instability.
