Florida's Palm Beach International Airport has officially been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with the new name taking effect on Thursday. The move marks the latest in a series of government initiatives during President Donald Trump's second term to name public institutions, facilities, and programs in his honor.
According to Reuters, the airport's renaming reflects Trump's strong political and personal ties to Florida, where his Mar-a-Lago resort is located in Palm Beach. The state has become Trump's primary residence and political base in recent years.
Eric Trump welcomed the decision, telling Fox News that "there's probably nobody more synonymous with Palm Beach than Donald Trump, maybe in all of Florida."
The renaming follows legislation signed into law by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in March, authorizing the airport to bear Trump's name. The law required the airport to complete the necessary approvals and branding changes before the new name became official.
The airport, located near Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, is frequently used by the president and his family. Officials have said the name change affects the airport's branding but does not alter its ownership, governance, or day-to-day operations.
The renaming is part of a broader effort to commemorate Trump's presidency through public infrastructure and institutions. Other initiatives have included proposals to attach his name to government facilities and programs, although some efforts have faced legal challenges.
