Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued severe heatwave and dust storm warnings for several regions across the Kingdom, including the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and adhere strictly to health guidelines. According to the meteorological department, temperatures in Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and northern border areas are expected to soar between 47°C and 49°C.
The weather bureau stated that the heatwave will be accompanied by strong dust storms with wind gusts reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. This will significantly reduce visibility, creating hazardous driving conditions along highways, open desert routes, and rural roads.
Health authorities have advised the public, particularly children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, to exercise extreme caution. Residents are recommended to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and use masks and umbrellas if they must venture outdoors. Experts note that climate change has driven a notable increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme heatwaves and dust storms across the Middle East in recent years.
