Russia has welcomed ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions, with President Vladimir Putin assuring Iran that Moscow is ready to play a role and provide necessary assistance to help ease the situation.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke with Putin by telephone on Wednesday afternoon. During the call, Pezeshkian congratulated the Russian president on his birthday and wished him a long life and good health. He also conveyed his wishes for peace, prosperity and success for the Russian government and people.
Pezeshkian highlighted the positive and growing trajectory of relations between Tehran and Moscow, stressing the importance of maintaining and further strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields. He said such cooperation serves the mutual interests of Iran and Russia.
Putin thanked Pezeshkian for the birthday greetings and extended his wishes for peace, prosperity, security and success to the Iranian government and people.
The Russian president also referred to ongoing cooperation under the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty. He said cooperation between Tehran and Moscow has continued despite developments and changing circumstances in the region.
Putin praised the resilience of the Iranian people in the face of attacks against Iran, saying their courage had attracted attention and admiration around the world.
Referring to mediation efforts and diplomatic initiatives by several countries aimed at reducing regional tensions, Putin said Russia supports such efforts. He assured Iran that Moscow is prepared to contribute to de-escalation efforts and provide the necessary assistance.
At the end of the conversation, Putin emphasized the importance of maintaining close communication and cooperation between Tehran and Moscow. He also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
