Travel industry insiders have advised prospective pilgrims to book their Umrah packages as early as possible ahead of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, warning that delays could lead to costs rising two to three times.
The information came out on Sunday.
According to reports, the expected arrival of millions of worshippers in Makkah and Madinah during Ramadan is likely to significantly increase transportation and accommodation costs.
Umrah operators said that bus-based Umrah packages currently cost around AED 1,200, but prices may rise to AED 1,400 within the next few days. As Ramadan approaches, the cost could exceed AED 2,000.
Industry sources noted that many pilgrims postpone booking in hopes of finding cheaper last-minute packages. However, during peak periods like Ramadan, limited availability of transport and hotels often results in higher prices instead.
Air-based Umrah packages are expected to see an even sharper increase. At present, Umrah packages including air travel start at approximately AED 3,500. Once Ramadan begins, prices may rise beyond AED 5,200, potentially reaching AED 8,000, particularly during the final ten days of Ramadan, according to UAE-based tour operators.
Analysis suggests that while airfare prices remain relatively stable, hotel rates are the primary driver of increased costs. Hotel prices within walking distance of Masjid al-Haram typically double during Ramadan and may triple during the last ten days.
In addition, Umrah visa timelines are becoming increasingly important due to preparations for Hajj. Applications for Umrah visas will close after March 17, pilgrims must enter Saudi Arabia by April 2, and all Umrah visa holders will be required to leave the country by April 18.
Considering both cost and time constraints, industry stakeholders have strongly recommended early planning and advance bookings.
