The free event in Basingstoke will feature guided mosque tours, exhibitions, a presentation on Jesus in Islam and an open question-and-answer session.

A mosque in Basingstoke, the United Kingdom, is set to host an open day to help local residents learn more about Islam and promote understanding among people from different backgrounds.

The Basingstoke Muslim Welfare Association will organise the event at Al-Birr Mosque on Sarum Hill on November 1, from 11 am to 4 pm. The free event will offer guided tours of the mosque, exhibitions, discussions, a question-and-answer session and an opportunity to observe Muslim prayers.

Shahb Ahmed, chairman of the Basingstoke Muslim Welfare Association, said the organisers hoped the event would strengthen unity and harmony among different sections of the community through hospitality, education and meaningful dialogue.

He added that the initiative aimed to build lasting friendships and contribute to a more inclusive and harmonious society.

Visitors will be welcomed from 11 am and will have the opportunity to explore the exhibitions and learn about Islamic beliefs and practices.

At noon, the programme will feature a presentation on Jesus (peace be upon him) in Islam, followed by an open question-and-answer session.

Ahmed said many Christians, followers of other religions and people with no religious affiliation might not know that Jesus is also regarded as a prophet in Islam.

The presentation will explain the Islamic perspective on Jesus before participants are invited to ask questions and take part in a discussion.

Visitors will be able to ask questions about Islam, Sharia and Muslim religious practices, as well as other matters relating to mosques and Muslim communities. The event will also provide an opportunity to address misconceptions and misinformation about Islam circulating on social media.

Through the open day, the organisers hope to encourage open conversations, improve mutual understanding and strengthen relationships between Muslims and their neighbours.
