NEWS DESKA Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight bound for Singapore made an emergency return to Dhaka shortly after takeoff this morning (27 June) due to an engine-related issue. According to a press release, Flight BG 584, of a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:38am on 27 June 2025.
However, upon reaching an altitude of approximately 2,500 feet, the flight's captain reported an engine problem and opted to return to Dhaka as a precautionary measure. The aircraft landed safely at 8:59am and was parked at Bay 14 of the airport.
There were 154 passengers and 7 crew members on board. All passengers and crew are safe and in good health, according to the press release. Following the landing, the airport runway was inspected by relevant authorities.
About the possibility of a bird strike, Group Captain Ragib Samad, executive director, Dhaka Airport said, "Yes, blood stains were found in the engine cowling after landing."
The airline stated that a technical evaluation of the aircraft is underway, and a decision regarding the operation of the next flight will be made upon completion of the assessment.
