Jamaat Ameer to undergo Bypass Surgery to remove Heart Block

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has been diagnosed with three major blockages in his heart, and doctors have recommended immediate bypass surgery. His personal secretary, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, confirmed the development to reporters on Wednesday.

“After his sudden collapse on stage during the party’s national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, Dr Rahman underwent several medical tests, including an angiogram supervised by cardiologist Dr Mominuzzaman. The angiogram revealed three critical blockages,” Nazrul said.

Although the party initially considered sending Dr Rahman abroad for treatment, he opted to remain in Bangladesh, expressing full confidence in the country’s healthcare system. As a result, preparations are underway for his emergency surgery to be conducted locally.

Nazrul added that internal discussions are ongoing within the party regarding the next course of action.

Dr Rahman and his family have requested prayers from the nation for his swift and full recovery.
