NEWS DESKBangladesh’s Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus will embark on a three-day official bilateral visit to Malaysia starting August 11. The visit comes at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and serves as a reciprocal trip following Anwar’s visit to Bangladesh in October last year.
According to diplomatic sources in Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur, the two leaders are scheduled to hold a high-level bilateral summit on Tuesday.
The High Commission of Bangladesh in Kuala Lumpur stated that the leaders are expected to discuss several pressing issues, including resolving complications in sending Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia and granting Bangladeshi authorities access to the Foreign Workers Centralized Management System (FWCMS)—Malaysia’s digital platform for managing foreign labor. Other topics of discussion will likely include cooperation in defense, higher education, and the energy sector.
Diplomatic officials noted that both sides are working towards signing around 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and letters of intent during the visit. Seven of these MoUs are expected to cover areas such as defense, higher education, energy collaboration, and halal food management.
There is also a possibility that Chief Advisor Yunus will meet with former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad during the visit.
The Chief Advisor will be accompanied by several key officials, including Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain, Energy Advisor Muhammad Faozul Kabir Khan, and Legal Affairs Advisor Asif Nazrul.
Yunus is scheduled to depart Kuala Lumpur for Dhaka on August 13.
