The deadline for submitting nomination papers for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election has ended. A total of 658 nomination forms were collected for 28 posts, but only 509 were submitted, leaving 149 forms unreturned.

Chief Returning Officer Jasim Uddin shared the development at a press conference at the Senate Building on Wednesday afternoon. They did not announce the number of nominations that were submitted for each post.

Jasim said the number of candidates contesting for each post will be revealed on Thursday. “We will first scrutinise the nominations and then publish the draft list of candidates,” he added.

The biggest factor among the nearly 40,000 voters of DUCSU is about 48 percent of the voters in the five student halls. They will play an important role in determining victory or defeat on September 9. In addition, the past history, recent actions and ideology of the candidates will also have an impact on the election.

It is worth noting that the last DUCSU election was held in 2019. In this, Nurul Haque Nur became the VP (General Student Rights Protection Council), and Golam Rabbani (Chhatra League) was the GS.
