Speaker Hafiz Uddin Calls Sheikh Hasina the World’s Best Actress

Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has described former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as “the world’s best actress,” accusing her of concealing a “violent mindset” linked to enforced disappearances.

Speaking as the chief guest at a মতবিনিময়সভা at the Lalmohan Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Saturday, Hafiz Uddin alleged that Sheikh Hasina used to invite relatives of people who had disappeared to Ganabhaban and comfort their wives and children by placing her hands on their heads.

According to him, Hasina would assure the families that their missing relatives would be returned, while allegedly knowing where they were being held.

“She performed like the world’s best actress through such behavior and deception,” Hafiz Uddin said, adding that people did not understand what was happening at the time.

He claimed that evidence and testimonies presented before an international tribunal had since made the allegations clear to the public. He further alleged that Sheikh Hasina herself had ordered enforced disappearances.

Hafiz Uddin also criticized the Awami League government’s 17-year tenure, saying that Sheikh Hasina had fled the country because of her actions. He claimed that the chief justice and the imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque had also fled, while around 600 police officers had taken shelter in the cantonment.

Speaking about former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, Hafiz Uddin accused the police of widespread abuse and repression under the Awami League government.

He alleged that Benazir had accumulated large amounts of property in the names of his wife, sons and daughters and had taken control of forest land. He also claimed that the former police chief owned numerous houses and other properties.

Hafiz Uddin further accused senior Awami League leaders and former lawmakers of accumulating vast amounts of wealth through politics.

He alleged that many lawmakers who had been elected without genuine competition owned properties in villages, Dhaka and abroad. According to him, successive politicians have entered politics, looted public resources and then left, contributing to widespread public distrust of politicians in Bangladesh.

Among those present at the meeting were Lalmohan Upazila BNP President Md. Zafar Iqbal, General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Babul Panchayet, Municipal BNP President Sadeq Jantu, General Secretary Kamruzzaman Babul Patowary, and Upazila Jubo Dal President Shahinul Islam Kabir Hawlader, among others.
