Finance Adviser of bangladesh, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has confirmed that the proposal to purchase 60 vehicles for the ministers of the upcoming government has been cancelled. He made the announcement on Tuesday while speaking to reporters following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement at the Secretariat.

According to the Finance Adviser, the Ministry of Public Administration had submitted a proposal to procure 60 vehicles for the incoming ministers. However, that proposal has now been rejected. On the other hand, a proposal to purchase around 300 vehicles for officials involved in election duties at the district and upazila levels has been approved.

Sources from the Ministry of Finance revealed that the Ministry of Public Administration had earlier proposed, on August 19, the purchase of Mitsubishi Pajero QX 2427cc vehicles, each priced at Tk 1.69 crore (16.9 million), totaling Tk 101.61 crore (1.0161 billion). The Finance Division gave its consent to the proposal on August 24.

A report on the matter was published in national news on September 4, which sparked widespread criticism across various quarters. Following the backlash, the Finance Adviser has now officially announced the cancellation of the proposal.
